The parched state of California has been enjoying a watery respite in the past couple of weeks. Here in the upper Salinas Valley I actually saw water FLOWING in the Salinas River under the bridge on the east side of San Miguel. Granted, the flow was only about 10 feet across in a riverbed that is perhaps 200 yards wide, but it’s a good start to the rainy season. Hopefully the clouds keep coming and unzipping their bellies. I’ll gladly put off riding, or not bitch about getting caught out, in order to recharge the water table.
We rode yesterday though the viney hills north and east of Paso Robles, out to Von Dollen Road. In a number of spots we encountered thin, wet mud flows crossing the pavement. Shower time for the bike.
